JIM
SHAPIRO WINS HUGE PRIMARY VICTORY TO GAIN DEMOCRATIC NOMINATION
FOR STATE REPRESENTATIVE
August
10, 2004 Jim Shapiro
received a huge boost today in his efforts to become the next
State Representative from Stamford's 144th District. In a
stunning victory, Shapiro defeated his primary opponent with
65% of the vote. Shapiro, who has represented the Eleventh
District on the Stamford Board of Representatives for six
years, was elated with the victory.
"I
think we really connected with the people and I think they
connected with me," said Shapiro."We knocked on
thousands of doors and everywhere I went, people said, 'If
you give us something to believe in we'll come out for you'
and they did."
This
was the first August primary to follow a change in the state
election calendar, and the 27 percent primary turnout--larger
than many September primaries--pleased Democratic City Committee
Chairwoman, Ellen Camhi. "The turnout and his big margin
of victory is a tribute to the strength of Jim's candidacy
and his message. The voters in November will also respond
positively to his message." For more information
