MALLOY WINS DEMOCRATIC CONVENTION!
PRIMARY SET FOR AUGUST 8th
HARTFORD—May 20, 2006 Stamford’s Mayor Dan Malloy emerged from the Connecticut Democratic State Convention with a stunning victory and the Democratic nomination for Governor. This was probably the closest Democratic race for governor in state history, with the Malloy receiving 799 votes, four more than his opponent.
"Today I—you-- pulled off a stunning victory," Malloy announced to an exuberant group of supporting delegates. There may be a primary, but I know with what we accomplished here, we're going to November."
Democrats concluded their two-day state convention at the Hartford Expo Center, endorsing candidates for U.S. Senate and the six state Constitutional offices.
The convention ended with the endorsement of Malloy’s running mate, Mary Glassman of Simsbury for lieutenant governor.
On Friday, United States Senator, Joseph Lieberman, held off a challenge and received the Party endorsement by receiving an overwhelming majority of the delegate vote.
The convention's Saturday morning session produced no surprises as Attorney General Richard Blumenthal, Comptroller Nancy Wyman and Treasurer Denise Nappier, all incumbents, were endorsed by acclamation. In the only other contest to be decided, incumbent Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz won endorsement for re-election over a challenge from Norma Rodriquez-Reyes.
The races for Governor and United States Senator will be decided by a primary election to be held on August 8th.
