Mayor David Martin announces re-election bid

Martin: 'I'm looking forward to a second term'

Mayor David Martin on Friday announced his bid for re-election at UCONN-Stamford in front of more than 150 supporters.

“I’m looking forward to serving a second term and making Stamford — star of the state — shine even brighter,” Martin told the crowd.

Offering endorsements were Democrats Sens. Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy and U.S. Rep. Jim Himes.

“David Martin makes me proud to be in politics,” said Blumenthal, one of several speakers who touted Martin’s integrity in light of the current political climate.

“David is a real, real pain in our butt, and I mean that in a great way,” Murphy said. “David is a dogged advocate for this city.”

Martin, a Democrat, has been mayor since 2014.

“I believe government can make a positive difference in people’s lives, but it doesn’t happen unto itself,” he said. “It only happens if we make it happen. We must work hard to make government work for people and their lives.”
