With an eye on boosting the state’s economy and improving its business climate State Representative Caroline Simmons (D–Stamford) has been appointed House Chair of the Commerce Committee. “I want to thank House Speaker Joe Aresimowicz for this honor,” Rep. Simmons said.
“Caroline Simmons is an incredibly smart and talented legislator, and I know she will deliver results in this leadership position,” Speaker of the House Joe Aresimowicz (D- Berlin/Southington) said. “The Commerce Committee is the legislature’s hub of economic development and Caroline is the right person to lead the committee.”
“Pursuing policies that support business growth, job creation, and economic development is the main charge of the Commerce Committee,” Rep. Simmons said. “I am excited to work with every member of the committee on bipartisan solutions to support business growth and job creation in our state. I look forward to working tirelessly with all stakeholders on pro-business, pro-job growth policies to bolster our state's economy.” The Commerce Committee has cognizance of all matters relating to the Department of Economic and Community Development, the Connecticut Development Authority and Connecticut Innovations, Incorporated. Rep. Simmons will also serve on the Public Safety and Higher Education committees.
